The Python3 fontTools library supports avar2 and can programmatically add an avar2 table from a designspace file after you’ve exported your font from your design tool.

Are we ready for avar2?

Not yet. But, the future of avar2 is promising with support planned or in progress. It’s a good time to test avar2 in your fonts. Because font development takes months or years, learning about the upcoming features now can inform your future font designs and implementations.
